Ranking Member Stabenow Leads Successful Effort to Prevent Further Cuts to Agriculture Committee in Budget Conference Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today successfully defended the Agriculture Committee from further cuts in the budget conference report. Stabenow’s effort was supported by nearly 400 farm, conservation, and nutrition groups from around the country.

“There is not much to like with this budget, but at least the hard work and the reforms made by the Agriculture Committees in the Farm Bill have been recognized and further Agriculture cuts are not included in this Budget” Ranking Member Stabenow said. “America’s farmers and families need the certainty that this five year Farm Bill creates. We worked hard in a bipartisan way to set priorities and cut duplication in the Farm Bill.  I would encourage other committees to do the same, rather than the irresponsible cuts being proposed in this partisan budget that hurt middle class families in our country.”
