Ranking Member Stabenow Statement on House Passage of CFTC Reauthorization Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, released the following statement following House passage Tuesday evening of legislation reauthorizing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

“The integrity of our financial markets is of the utmost importance. That’s why we need to work in a bipartisan way to ensure that the CFTC is equipped with the tools and resources it needs to foster open, transparent, and competitive derivatives markets,” Ranking Member Stabenow said. "The House bill misses the opportunity for meaningful reform to strengthen the CFTC in favor of a bill that irresponsibly imposes organizational and procedural changes that would weaken and restrict the CFTC’s ability to address important market issues in a timely and efficient manner.”
